Capital greed evolves into an environmental disaster in Siroua

Peasants of Siroua, lift up against capital!

The poor peasants, shepherds of the Anti-Atlas, 60 kilometers from Taliouine, east of Taroudant, speak of the death of their flocks as soon as they come up from the valley. Waste from the Zgounder silver mine polluted the waters.
In areas of the Siroua Basin, the environment (peasants, water, forests, and all living things) is threatened by toxin damage from the Zgounder Mine silver factory.
Every day, 300 tons of materials containing a small percentage of silver are extracted, soluble in sulfur, nitrates and feathers. To extract about 6 kg of pure silver, about 20 tonnes of silver per year, at the drying horizon of the ceiling, 30 tonnes per year, according to the report of the Canadian company Maya Gold, in 2012. The desalination of these substances can reach the water table of Siroua. The effects of the furnaces of the plant, a temperature of 400 ° C, cause an increase in the temperature of the region known by its cold. This will result in an imbalance of climate and the natural environment formed millions of years ago.

The extraction of 20 tons of silver per year gives approximately 10,600 tons of materials and dust extracted from mines. Thousands of tons of toxic acidic substances and millions of tons of water used can unbalance the environment of Siroua.
Since the operation of the mine in August 2014, approximately 50,000 tonnes of toxic substances and dust have been deposited on the surface of the Siroua Basin. A large quantity has been moved by the rains to the Aoulouz dam. The floods of November 2014 had even ravaged the tanks of chemicals used for extraction and transposed its toxic Aoulouz Dam. The authorities of Taroudant were forced to open all the exits of the dam, which caused flooding along the Souss river which ravaged the lands and the Saguias (canals) of the poor peasants and innodated the markets of the city. 'Inzgan before pouring these toxic products into the Atlantic Ocean, more than 300 million cubic meters of water according to official reports.
For ten years, following the operating contract, the company estimated to earn $ 110 million by causing an environmental disaster threatening human life for short periods.
An environmental catastrophe evolves in the basin of Siroua towards the plain of Souss through the waters of the valley of Souss because of the greed of the capital which destroys the nature and the Man.
The peasant union (SP) had lodged a complaint with the Taroudant authorities concerning this danger, which threatens the lives of poor farmers and their crops. The floods caused by the dam in 2014 had ravaged their lands, and no compensation intervention was reported, despite the promises of the governor of Taroudant at a meeting with our union about this serious environmental disaster.
A statement from the SP on this subject has been published several times, the most important of which is on the occasion of the so-called international saffron festival of Taliouine. A group of associations that had been contacted had shown their willingness to fight. The farmers have understood that Saffron is really threatened by the effects of this plant. On several occasions, protests have been organized by young people from the region.
Under the same conditions, the poor farmers of Imider, a region of Tinghir, are deprived of the right to water. This is further evidence that explains the results of the class economic policy of the Moroccan regime, since the exploitation of their waters by the silver mine in 1967. Pollution, on land, in water and in the water. air causes health problems infecting the population of the region, cases of deaths without causes have been reported.
A visit was organized by the SP in March 2016 to Djebel Alban, site of the permanent sit-in of the "Movement on the way 96", a peasant movement that fights for the economic and social rights of poor peasants of Imider. Their demonstrations were repressed and their leaders are detained and sentenced to heavy sentences.
The poor peasants in the suburbs of the AflaIgher gold mine, about 60 km from Tafraout, in southern Morocco, particularly in the circle of Inloi, live in dangerous conditions because of the poisoning of mines: men, women and children are at risk of seeing the loss of their lives. The mountain of gold and death hovering in the region, the capitalists harvest gold and the eyes of poor peasants reflect its orange color, hepatitis disease that kills men, women and children. Migratory birds are also victims of these toxins.
The SP is launching an Alert to the environmental disaster that occurs in the Siroua at the Anti-Atlas in Morocco, encompassing the Souss Valley, to all national and international organizations for the defense of human rights and development, for an alliance of militant organizations, responding to this call, by organizing visits of activism, scientific and cultural Siroua, which aim to stop the greed of imperialist capital in this healthy region.
